"Creating and Implementing Breakthrough Medical Technology"
Robert S. LangerMassachusetts Institute of Technology
April 13 -- 1:30-3 p.m.
Nebraska Union Auditorium
Robert S. Langer, Institute Professor at MIT and a leading innovator in biomedical and engineering research will outline how to move research from the lab to the marketplace during an April 13 video seminar. All UNL faculty, staff and students are invited to this free Office of Technology Development seminar.
Langer is uniquely positioned to speak about innovation and commercialization. Many of his more than 600 issued or pending patents have been licensed to over 200 companies and formed the basis for nearly two dozen start-up companies, earning him recognition as “one of history’s most prolific inventors in medicine.”
Langer will discuss several different case studies in the areas of drug delivery, medical devices and biotherapeutics. He will examine each in terms of the process and excitement of discovery, initial resistance by the scientific community, pursuit of broad patent rights, technology transfer and commercialization.
After his presentation, those attending the seminar will have the opportunity to ask Langer questions.
A profile of Langer in the March 5 issue of Nature provides a sense of his work and his stature. A colleague describes him as "the Tiger Woods, the Michael Jordan of engineering."
