Congratulations on your invention!

As a UNL inventor, you are among the university's most valuable resources. Your continuing innovation and pursuit of new knowledge is the first step in bringing to the marketplace important ideas that will eventually provide benefits to the broader community. Through the Office of Technology Development (OTD), UNL supports your efforts and provides resources to make your research a commercial success. When an invention is successfully commercialized, the inventor, relevant academic units and the University share in the proceeds.
OTD is responsible for protecting and commercializing the university’s
intellectual property, and exists to:
- transfer technology to the private sector for the public good
- enhance the likelihood of commercial success
- create jobs for students and the local community
Every inventor should understand federal and state rules that pertain
to University inventions and how UNL manages intellectual property. Although
following these regulations is sometimes difficult, you need to do so because
you have succeeded in creating an invention of real value to your community,
and this is the way to make sure the community benefits from it.
Thank you for your efforts and for allowing OTD to work with
you to make sure your ideas find their place in industry and the marketplace.
